Julius Stone was the Challis Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law at the University of Sydney 1942 to 1972. Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Stone had a life-long commitment to Israel and Jewish affairs. Stone served on two important government committees during the war dealing with morale and post-war reconstruction. He was a prolific writer of legal texts, especially in the areas of legal theory, international law and human rights.
