Details
Almost every book in the Robert Menzies Collection is marked by a book-plate, designed in 1940 by Menzies' friend Lionel Lindsay. This wood engraving depicts a barrister's wig, a dispatch box, eucalyptus blossom, books and a wine decanter. At the foreground is the declaration of war, which Menzies broadcast to the nation on 3 September 1939. Hundreds of book-plates were printed and were affixed to almost every book in the collection; even unsolicited gifts and ephemera were almost always marked with a book-plate.
