Details
Dean Acheson was a US lawyer and statesman. He studied at Yale University and Harvard Law School before entering politics in 1933 when he became undersecretary of the Treasury. Acheson went on to have a key role in the development of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). He was secretary of state from 1949 to 1953.
In his book Afternoon Light, Menzies described Acheson as 'that brilliant and remarkable American' (Afternoon Light, 1).
